The Republicrats Have Failed This Nation

In order to heal what is ailing this nation, we have to get to the source or root of the problem.  What Pelosi's Congress has done over the past four years is the equivalent to strapping a band-aid over a gunshot wound.  The source of our pain is the money grubbing entities which are more self-serving than anything else.  In no particular order, they are our Congress, the media, lobbyists, and unions.  Let's take a bit of a closer look at a few ideal ways to heal America.  Follow along after the jump...

First and foremost, we need real Congressional reform.   I've touched on a couple of these issues previously, so pardon my redundancy.  All members of Congress should be required to work in their home districts four months out of the year so they can actually see how their policies are affecting the constituency.  Their salaries should also be reduced by 1/3 as well.  Right now, they simply siphon off of the taxpayer a bit too much.  It is about utility costs.  How much tax money does it take to facilitate Congress' workload?  I assure you they do not work 2000 hours per year like so many of us do.  Also, I have  previously mentioned that we need term limits in Congress as well as the SCJ's.  One glaring correction that is needed:  prior to Congressional salaries being increased, it should be authorized by another means/entity other than they themselves simply saying, "I want a raise.  I vote YES!"  This is just one of the most glaring components of Congress that annoys the American public.  The others are special health care options as well as a separate retirement option not available to the public.  Here is a "gimme":  mandatory participation in Social Security.  You want solutions to Social Security Mr/Mrs. Representative?  You have to participate in the same "great option" as the rest of us.  Sit back and watch how quickly this would get solved.  Regarding health care, they should be required to use a VA health plan.  I wonder how long it would take for reform to take hold under these circumstances?  Does the phrase "in the blink of an eye" mean anything to you?

Second, we need a consistent audit of the media to ensure they are sharing factual data with the public while informing them of the news in relation to candidates who are running for office.  Blatant lies are being spread across the board by the left and right and there ought to be consequences, not only for the media, but for the sources as well (I am looking at you smear merchants which is inclusive of the Hollywood elite and network executives).  All of the networks are guilty.  There is one slight problem.  The only conservative network is Fox News.  All of the rest lean to the left whether they want to admit it or not.  Their blatant dishonesty is what is most depressing and disappointing.  Let's be real, news media...shall we?

Third, lobbyists should be eliminated.  No more palm greasing.  Companies should have to follow the maximum donations just like individuals, which is $2400 per Federal candidate annually.  This alone would help solve the health care dilemma as the insurance lobbyists are some of the worst offenders around.  From 1988 to 2003, lobbying groups spent over $13 billion to influence the federal government.  Why do they spend so much?  Because, if their voting preferences are realized, they will line their pockets with more cash than if they are not.  This hurts Americans at home.  Period.

Finally, unions and all union contracts associated with taxpayer funds ought to be deemed void immediately. Some of this will be at the state level, but it needs to be mandated across the board.  It is what is strangling the state of CA as they cannot fund these pensions.  There are city managers in the state of CA who, according to their pension contracts, are due in excess of $500,000 annually after they retire, and into perpetuity!  How on God's green earth would that be permissible under the best of circumstances?  This is blatant thievery and a hijacking of funds that can never be met by the US and state taxpayer.  Enough is enough.  This selfish attitude which is so rampant in US politics today must be destroyed.  The constituents who live in these city manager's districts should have a say in how their tax dollars are being wasted spent in this capacity.

In conclusion, the legislative branch of our government was designed to be representative of the people, not the corporations.  Until this trend is reversed, we will never begin to fully heal as a nation.  Freshmen Congressmen are overwhelmed with "how things are on the Hill."  What crap.  Washington D.C. does not want to evolve and has failed to recognize that society today is more educated than ever before.  It is how we know when a news organization is blowing smoke rather than reporting the facts.  It is how we know when politicians care more about their wallet than people.  Care to prove us wrong?
