Common Sense: Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should

This past week, emotions spilled over during Bill O'Reilly's visit on "The View."  Now, I know what you are thinking...Tony, why on earth were you watching The View?  What has happened to you?  Did hell freeze over?  Um...well...uh...not exactly.

For the record, I did not tune in to the entire program.  But, when I learned of the story and why the tension built, I was intrigued to say the least.  Therefore, I did some high-level recon work...

Right.  I saw the link on Drudge Report and clicked it.  By doing so, I was witness to your typical politically charged juvenile behavior so common today, complete with tantrums by a couple of the hosts:  Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.  Ladies, are you eight freaking years old?  Isn't this sort of behavior usually reserved for those running for office?  Can you believe they actually walked off the stage in protest of an insensitive remark?  Can you imagine Walter Cronkite conducting himself in this fashion had one of his guests "deserved" it?  Of course you can't as he was a professional (take note Joy and Whoopi).  So, what caused this ruckus?  Park 51, commonly referred to as the Ground Zero Mosque.

If you are not familiar with this bit of controversy or you are simply out of Ambien, you can catch the extended Cliffs Notes by clicking here.  PNP's version is simple:  Islamic extremists committed atrocities against this nation which included murdering multiple creeds, nationalities, and demographics on 9/11/2001.  This proposed mosque will reside 2 blocks from the former WTC site.  The sentiment is it opens too many wounds for too many people.  It's simply too much, too soon.  I should also note, the majority of people polled in this nation oppose this site and location, not the mosque itself.

Here's the thing, in reviewing the video, O'Reilly grossly erred in stating that "Muslims killed us."  While technically true, it is an insensitive thing to say.  He backtracked and corrected his comment by stating that "Muslim extremists killed us."  I'm surprised the media even accepts this term as terrorists are referred to as either enemy combatants or insurgents. <------- The aforementioned preceding the arrow is absolute drivel and further proof that the wussification of America is alive and well.  Fact.

Now, let's fast forward to the mosque debate, which got them all in a tizzy to begin with.  The developers and owners of this proposed mosque/cultural/community center have "the right" to erect it around ground zero, but it is insensitive of them to do so.  The building where this center is proposed was damaged by the 9/11 attacks.  Yep, it is that close.  What we really need here is the application of some common sense:

Of course, asking for and receiving common sense regarding this matter would be like asking our current administration not to spend money we don't have and they actually listen for a change.  Not gonna happen.  Joy Behar does not like Bill O'Reilly because he leans to the right and he is a classic Type-A personality.  A registered independent, O'Reilly is the only journalist I know of that tracks and challenges those judges who impose weak sentences upon and/or release child molesters back into society.  This is not an apology piece for Mr. O'Reilly.  He is a polarizing figure and most either love him or loathe him.  However, he gets no credit for these actions and he should.  One final piece of advice to Joy and Whoopi, each of you need to grow up.  You are making people miss Rosie O'Donnell and that is never a good thing.

  1. Their walk-off seemed planned to me. Either way they're both idiots and political correctness has gone way overboard these days. Like it or not Muslims attacked us on 911. Sure you could say Muslim extremists, or muslim male extremists, or 6 foot tall muslim male extremists, or 6 foot tall, muslim, male extremists with brown eyes, etc......

  2. I applaud them for walking off.. He's a tool and a jerk.. And let's not forget it's Sweeps.. so any press is good press for their show..

Bill just wanted a reaction and he got one, so in reality he wins this round.. But he's a jerk nonetheless..

I don't care if they put a mosque at Ground Zero or where the Twin towers were. Who cares? Does any of this bring back those lost? Does any of this do anything to the terrorist that did the act? Nope.. What it does do is give them more press, which is what they wanted. Point terrorist..

It's private property and whatever wants to be built there should be built there. Would anyone care if a Quickie Mart run by Muslims was built 2 blocks away? Nope.. But it's no different.. People need to get their panties out of a wad..

By not allowing them to build this we would let the terrorists win. Because then we would be a country without this "freedom of religion" we love to boast about and were founded on..

man.. now I want a slurpee...

  3. Yeah but you like Buffon O'Reilly because you agree with his half-witted-ring winged views.. I honestly don't watch the news or keep up with politics. But what I do know is he seems to be a closed minded, bigoted, conservative Republican (which I guess you have to be all those things to be a Republican..duh..). And he's only looking to make sound bites and cause problems. He's Whoopi without the hair and glasses.. oh and the whole lesbian thing..

They all want ratings or he wouldn't be on their "show" anyway...

And 90% of stats from surveys are made up... Honestly it doesn't matter what any survey says (even on Family Feud...) This isn't a matter of debate or vote. The decision to allow this was made when the Constitution was written. And most on the "right" tend to always want to refer to it when it favors them.. So they have to go look at it now..

If the local government there disallowed this mosque (which btw is more than just a mosque) then it would open the doors for every local government nationwide to disallow the building of a religious center just because it offends someone...

So then small towns that are traditionally Baptist could disallow Mormom churches to be built, or Catholic chruche and etc. Areas that are primarily Jewish could disallow any Christian church to be built.. Do we really want to go there? I don't think so..

  5. I have a father-in-law that subjects us to Fox News whenever we are at his house or he's at ours. So I've seen more than 30 seconds of O'Reilly and that's more than enough for me to know he's a jerk and I can't stand him. (side note we don't let him watch Fox News here anymore.. Or any news. Not kid friendly..).

I don't see that it's insensitive.. Maybe I'm heartless, but move on already.. Remember it, but move on..

As far as who is in charge of Congress? I honestly prefer the President to be one party and the house and senate different parties. Makes a good checks and balances. Anytime one party controls all of it no real debate happens. Just people push through their agenda.. Which usually only benefits the lobbyist. Which, let's face it, run our country and run our politicians.. No politician is "In it for America". They are all in it for themselves and the $$$ that comes along with the seat.

McViegh wasn't labeled a Christian terrorist because unfortunately us Americans aren't as dedicated to our religion of choice like other cultures. He was a nut that acted out irrationally. Just like those from 9/11. All extremists that took things WAY too far..

All that said I don't care if it's built or not. Build 1000 of them.. Doesn't change who I worship or who my God is...

Oh and I think the whole View thing was an act just for ratings..

  6. Who said they couldn't build it? I don't think anyone is arguing that except you Scott. Everyone pretty much agrees they can they some just say they shouldn't. Even if you don't read the post the title pretty much gives it away:

"Because you can, doesn't mean you should"

    By the way:

"McViegh wasn't labeled a Christian terrorist"

Bullshit! I heard every libtard on the planet screaming that for years. Hearing it now all over again every since this incident on the view. You just said it..... But like you said you don't really watch the news so I understand.
