Sports Rules That Are Beyond Annoying

I've been thinking about these abominations in sport for quite some time.  No need for some crescendo of an introduction.  Let's get right to it.

Down without contact in college football. Is there anything worse than a zip pass to the WR that is a bit low so he drops his knee to the turf out of instinct to ensure he catches the ball only to have it blown dead at that spot?  Moronic.  Change it pronto.

Manager in uniform in baseball. Look, if Phil Jackson is not sporting a Lakers jersey and shorts, why should I be forced to watch the likes of Bobby Cox et al.?  Put on a team windbreaker and some appropriate colors if you want to match your team.

Signing incorrect scorecard in golf. If there was a poster-child for moronic rules, this would be it. Even if you card yourself for a 4 instead of the 3 you actually received, you are DQ'd.  The most famous application had to be the 1968 Masters. Roberto DeVicenzo failed to catch the mistake by Tommy Aaron, signed for a 4 on 17 instead of the 3 he carded, and was forced to take the higher score and that prevented him from going to a playoff against Bob Goalby, thus handing Goalby the championship. So let me get this straight. I accidentally give myself one stroke too many and somehow that is equivalent to cheating. OK. Got it.

Pass Interference in NFL. This is a distance penalty and one that needs to be addressed. There is virtually no guarantee that the receiver would catch the ball had he not been interfered with. Make it a 15 yarder and stop putting officials in awkward positions of feeling they need to keep flag in pocket.  Heaving a ball 50 yards into the end zone to be rewarded with a 49 yard penalty in this instance is ignorance at the highest level. One thing is for sure, the NFL is not being overrun with Mensas.

Mystery Extra Time in Soccer.  No official clock to let anyone know just how much time is left in "injury time."  Just some arbitrary time kept by one individual on the field, the referee, and nobody else in the entire stadium knows how much is going to be allotted.  Like nuclear launch codes, it is top secret.  No wonder America hates this sport.

There you have it.  In my humble opinion, these are five of the most glaring inequities in athletic rules which we are all unfortunately subjected to.  Nobody likes them.  Yet, nobody wants to vigorously force change to them.  I only ask, why not?  If you think of any others, feel free to opine here.

  1. Sorry I have to disagree about the baseball unis. What other options are there:

-Suit and Tie (Basketball and occasional football)- way to formal when playing in dirt
-Jogging Suit- no way Re-run, tell Dwayne I said, hey hey hey hey
-Batting Practice Jersey w/ baseball pants- possibly an option, but you have to have the pants, otherwise #FAIL if nut hugging coaching shorts are used

    -your pal KRACKAKING
