The nearest Taco Bell is 12 miles from our home. This can be problematic when it is time for 4th meal.
Some local businesses will open and close at odd hours and will also close if the surf is up. Truly.
Monday Night Football becomes Monday Afternoon Football with kickoff around 2:30 or 3:30 local time.
On Saturday and Sunday, football begins between 6:00AM-8:00AM depending on the day and whether Daylight Saving Time is active or not.
Drivers will stop even when they have the right of way to let you proceed first. This occurs like clockwork.
Nobody honks here...ever.
There are more than a few full-service gas stations.
There is no full-service car wash on the island. Not one.
We have Pizza Hut, complete with delivery, but incomplete without online ordering.
There are centipedes here. Big ones. Word is their bite can be as painful as a gunshot wound.
There are roosters everywhere. They crow all the live long day.
Homes are adorned with surf art, surf boards and surf books. Fact, fact, fact.
There are approximately 130 private residents on Ni`ihau, the "forbidden island" off of Kauai's southwest coast. The island is still owned by the Robinson family to this day.
When you have lived on Oahu, the new version of Hawaii Five-O resonates higher on the "cool" scale.
